Your coaches at the Rock Star Triathlete Academy frequently toss around special triathlon lingo in the training plans, forum and coach call. Here’s your guide to getting hip to their strange speak.
“Break-Through”
Definition 1: An exceptionally stellar race or training session that takes one far beyond their typical performance.
Definition 2: A workout that is considered to be a difficult but key workout in the build-up to a race.
Example: “Kevin’s break-through performance last weekend was probably from those 4 weeks of break-through track workouts that he did.”
“Flow”
Definition: Getting into one’s groove and experiencing a focused high during exercise or performance where everything feels easy.
Example: “I got my flow during the last part of the half-marathon and felt like I just cruised to the finish line.”
“Flying”
Definition: Making every other competitor around look slow because of one’s exceptional speed.
Example: “Did you get passed by Dillon on the second loop of the bike? He was flying!”
“Gold Wings”
Definition: A special recognition in the Rock Star Triathlete Academy, typically only given to Lifetime members or individuals who have been randomly chosen for one of the monthly Gold Wings coaching calls.
Example: “I just finished my Gold Wings call last weekend and got a bonus prize mailed to me from the Rock Star Triathlete Academy!”
“Killer”
Definition: An extremely motivated triathlete – one who gives 100% in any competitive effort. Success is optional.
Example: “Nancy is a killer. Did you see her last race report where she ran 8 miles with blisters?”
“Rock”
Definition: To completely dominate one’s goals or exceed one’s expectations for the sport of triathlon.
Example: “I absolutely rocked my last race and blew my PR out of the water!”
“Rock Star”
Definition: An individual who consistently rocks in their performances (see above).
Example: “Bridgette is a complete rock star this season in her triathlons. Have you seen her incredible results?”
“Smashed”
Definition: To literally destroy a personal best, course record, or group of other competitors.
Example: “I’m absolutely smashing all my times from last triathlon season.”
