Monday’s Night Triathlon Training Call With Rock Star Coach Kerry Sullivan

Ben Greenfield got stuck in the Oakland airport with no internet during this call, so Kerry Sullivan rocked your triathlon questions solo, including:

Hey guys- I am racing the Halfmax Half Iron championships this coming Saturday. 2 weeks later, I am racing Austin 70.3 half Ironman. Ben, you gave me some great advice for training to stay fit between the 2 races, but any tips for what can I do from the moment I cross the finish line to speed and make my recovery as best as possible? Would an intesnse sport massage be a good idea the next, or 2 days after? I also have a 6-hour drive home after the race- so any advice considering that?

Hi guys, I’ve now completed my first Ironman, and am signed up again for next year’s IMC in August 2011. I had a very successful last season, and after a relatively easy month I’m ready to get going again in October. I want to capitalize on my speed gains from this year and get faster for next year. However, I’m afraid if I start my too much intensity, I could burn out or injure myself. Any advice on how to find balance with this?
