In this live member’s call, Ben and Kerry answer the following questions:
What should ones nutrition look like in the days after an ironman or half ironman? Being that we are less active but our bodies are seriously broken down?
To your knowledge, is there any reason to be concerned about combining GU gels, water, and an Ultima Replenisher sports drink as race nutrition for a marathon? (The sports drink contains maltodextrin and stevia besides electrolytes, vitamins and a few other things.)
Is it realistic to try to add some speed in the last 5 weeks leading to a marathon? What type of work outs would you recommend to do?
Another marathon question: How close to the race should I plan to do my longest run? Secondly, is 20mi enough for the longest run?
What is your advice on a good Marathon pacing strategy? (The course of the race I planning to do has little rollers in the first half and is flat in the second half).
On my longer workouts, especially runs, my legs fatigue way before my “lungs” or cardiovascualr system does. I feel aerobically fine but my legs begin to slow. How can I improve this? Would doing more functional strength training this off-season to get them stronger help?
I have qualified for 2011 ITU Long Course Worlds next November! I was wondering how you suggest I structure my season next year so that I can peak for this race, but still perform well at other races (mostly olympic and Half IM)? And without burning out since this race isn’t till November! Thanks guys
Should I ever use my race wheels (Zipp 808 front & 900 back) in training other than riding with them a few days out from a race to make sure they are functioning properly?
I’m currently doing sprint and Olympic distance triathlons but am putting in the amount of training required for longer distances, which consists of 20-25 hour per week. The reason for the amount of hours is that I love training and in a couple of years I would like to try to do an IM, but would like a good base of miles for that distance. Is there anything wrong with following an IM distance plan until race season and then switching over to a sprint plan? If not how soon before race season starts should I switch over to the sprint plan?
