Triathlon Training and Nutrition Member Q&A With Ben Greenfield & Kerry Sullivan

In this triathlon training and nutrition call with Ben Greenfield and Kerry Sullivan…

I just got a pair or swimming hand paddles. Can you guys give me some advice on using these and drills to do? Should be using a pull buoy whenever I use them? I’ve only used them once so far and just felt kind of awkward.

I have a question concerning interval and Zone 4 training. When I do a hill workout, I find that my legs seem to give out before my HR makes it up to Zone 4. This applies to both biking and running. Is this a function of muscular endurance, not recovering properly, or something else? When this happens, should I just suck it up and keep pushing, or scale back? Since I’m in the build phase now, I don’t want to shortchange myself on quality workouts. Also, thanks for everyone’s ideas for my DIY triathlon camp, it went really well!

I have just begun following your 24 week half ironman plan for a race in early July. Now I just found out that I have a hernia and surgery likely won’t happen for 6 months. How will this affect my training and more so my races I have planned this upcoming season? I’m sure I had it last season as well and I knew something was wrong but I didn’t know what the bulge sticking out meant. Was I right when I thought I was slower on the bike last season than the season before, or am I just imagining this?
