Race Name: TNT Hiawatha Trail Run

The TNT (Tunnels “N” Trestles) Trail Run will be held on the Hiawatha trail located adjacent to I-90 at the Idaho/Montana state line, 12 mile east of historic Wallace, Idaho. Winding through 10 tunnels and 7 high trestles, this 28.2 mile out and back route crosses the rugged Bitterroot Mountains between Idaho and Montana. The route of the Hiawatha is best known for the long, dark St. Paul Pass, or Taft tunnel, which burrows for 1.66 miles under the Idaho /Montana state line. Athletes can register at Active.com under the heading TNT Hiawatha Trail Run or at either Precision Fitness locations in Coeur D’Alene and Hayden. Registration forms will also be available at Fleet Feet Coeur D’Alene. Registration for this event will be $85.00. Athletes will be provided full race support throughout the event with finishers receiving a finisher’s medal and a finisher’s wool athletic shirt. In addition to the solo runners and walkers athletes can participate in a 4 person relay, registration for the relay is $120.00 for the four person team. The path is made up of crushed granite also know and decomposed granite. The trail is fairly flat side to side and about 8 feet in width. The event begins at an elevation of 4147 feet, descending to 3180 feet, a descent of 967 feet over one leg of the course. At this point athletes will turn around and ascend 1000 feet to the finish atop the trail. This 28.2 mile walk/run will boast spectacular views over the entire course. This is one race that will be unlike any other.
Insider Tip(s) From the Race Director: This event is a fast out and back trail run. With wide level terrain that will challenge even the veteran runners. At the same time it is set up to aid the beginner in their first ultra distance trail run. This race hosts a unique feature of running through 10 tunnels and over 7 trestles offered by no other event ever.

Race Name: Hayden View Triathlon

The 3rd annual Hayden View Triathlon to benefit Hayden Parks and Recreation will be held on Saturday; July 31, 2010. Participants are encouraged to sign up quickly as this event will sell out. This year the racers will have to complete a half mile swim followed by a 10.2 mile bike along Hayden lake to finish with a 3.7 mile run down Honeysuckle Ave. to the finish at Honeysuckle beach. Registration is open now at a price of $75.00 you can register at Active.com or at your local Precision Fitness locations in Coeur D’Alene and the new facility on Wayne Ave. in Hayden. This year’s event will also host a Duathlon in conjunction with the triathlon. Individuals will be allowed to bike and run their way to the finish line. The kid’s race this year will include a 500 yard swim a 3 mile bike and a half mile run. (Every child will have to show proof of their ability to swim prior to registration) Proceeds from the $10.00 fee for the kid’s race will go to the swim program within the Hayden Parks and Recreation department.
Insider Tip(s) From the Race Director: This is a scenic and beautiful course; however, the bike is an out and back and is hilly and fast. The run is a gradual incline out of transition with a fast finish. This race is a fantastic first race for new athletes and families.
