In this Rock Star Triathlete Academy member’s call with Ben Greenfield and Kerry Sullivan, the triathlon coaches field questions such as:
What are the best minimalist i.e. closest to barefoot triathlon running shoes? I find Newton’s good but I tend to wear down the outer front of my left shoe and Zoots give me left heel ulcers
Hey guys, I just bought 2 new bikes- one very nice tri bike and pretty good road bike. My question is, is there a reason to not do all my training on my tri bike? Should I do most of it instead on the roadbike which will make the tri bike seem easier come race day? Also, being a triathlete, can I go ahead and put aerobars on the roadbike to use in training? Thanks guys!
I recently started using intermittent fasting this week to get rid of some of the holiday weight that I put on from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The pounds are literally melting off me! I’ve been doing what Ben suggested by waiting between 12-14 hours in-between eating dinner and breakfast and I’m performing a 45-minute swim workout before I eat breakfast. I’m concerned that I’m loosing too much weight too quickly. I’ve read articles where you should only be loosing at most two pounds a week to be healthy, but I’m loosing about that much each day. I don’t feel any different and I’m actually performing better in my workouts. I have a pretty high metabolism to begin with and usually don’t have any trouble dropping weight but I’ve never lost weight this quickly before. Is this normal for intermittent fasting or should I be concerned?
My question is regarding peaking both in the marathon and in triathlon in separate parts of the year. My marathon training is much like my triathlon training where I swim five days a week, bike four days a week, and run three days a week. During marathon training I do longer swim, bike, and run workouts to work on my endurance. During triathlon training I shorten up the distances and work more on speed since I do mainly sprints. My “A” race in the marathon is the Boston marathon on April 18th. I’ll take a week off to recuperate and then switch over to the shorter distances for triathlon. My “A” race for triathlon is a sprint distance in late August. I think the time between the two “A” races will be enough to perform well at both but I just wanted to get your thoughts on this. Also if you have any suggestions or modifications that I should make to my training so that I will perform well at both sports they would be appreciated.
Hi, after reading Ben’s ebooks, I’m interested in taking flaxseed oil for its joint-maintaining benefits. So how much, how often, and how should I take it in the straight oil form? Does eating ground flaxseeds minimize the amount of oil I would need? Thanks for any advice you have.
Following on the heels of the last caller, I find that running in Newtons tends to tighten my calf muscles to the point where one or the other will get to the point where it feels like I will pull them if I continue. I subscribe to Chi running style. Any thoughts on why this may occur regularly?
